Review Ford Fiesta 2009 – Small & Compact

The car of the year for 2009 is the Ford Fiesta. A lot of people were surprised by that, since there are so many other cars available and some of them are very high quality. However, the Ford Fiesta is a low cost car that has a lot to offer, and it gets good gas mileage. That makes it a popular choice for all kinds of people from all walks of life – especially people who have to commute and who don’t want to take public transportation.

The Ford Fiesta is a great way to do that because it’s so small and compact, which makes it easily manoeuvrable. It also doesn’t cost a lot to own or operate, so people on a budget can get what they need for transportation and still afford their rent or mortgage.

Customer will likely opt for one of the two diesel powertrains which is the 1.4-liter Duratorq TDCi with two valves per cylinder providing 68 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque or the larger 1.6-liter unit with four-valve cylinder heads producing 90 hp and 150 lb-ft. Ours was equipped with the latter and provided smooth power delivery along our journey. But while the diesel power proved perfectly adequate, we were looking forward to sampling the gasoline-burning Sport model.

Ford Fiest with two turbodiesels, Ford is offering three Duratec four-cylinder engines: a 1.2-liter unit with 60 horsepower and 80 lb-ft of torque, a 1.4-liter version with 96 hp and 94 lb-ft, and the range-topping 1.6-liter Ti-VCT engine corralling a more substantial 120 horses and twisting out 112 lb-ft of torque. As with the diesel power options, each can be mated to a four-speed automatic or 5-speed manual, the latter of which we found had a positive gearchange and well-optimized clutch.

Not everyone will love the Fiesta because some people simply want bigger, flashier, more expensive cars, but for those who need good quality transportation at a great price, it’s very hard to beat the Ford Fiesta.

Now that the Fiesta has been named the car of the year, it’s quite likely that Ford will see a boost in sales of that vehicle, further contributing to its market share, profits, and desirability in the UK car market today.
